If Only He Would Potty Train Himself!

I tried to start potty training Jackson last year, but he still had a lot of pain from his hypospadias repair and I didn’t want to push him into it. By the time that he turned 3 this spring, most of his pain seemed to be gone and I figured we should probably start working on potty training.

It started out slow, but he seems to be catching on. Most of the time Jackson wants to use the big toilet because “Daddy doesn’t use the little toilet”. Sometimes he’s too busy playing to go into the bathroom so I bring his little toilet out into the family room for him.

Tuesday was one of those days.

It was 2:30 and I was rushing around getting the house cleaned up for a showing at 3:00 so I brought Jackson’s toilet out into the family room for him. I had just finished what I was doing when I heard Jackson say, “Mama! I peed on the toilet!”

I turned around to see him holding the toilet bowl and, in what seemed to be slow motion, he slowly lifted it up to show me that it was almost full. The only problem was that as he lifted it up he tipped it towards himself and the entire thing spilled down the front of his shirt and around his feet.

As I ran toward him trying to stop it from happening, he dropped the toilet bowl on the floor in front of him. It landed face down spilling every last drop onto the carpet as Jackson stared down at his shirt, horrified.

We were both horrified.

Needless to say, every last drop soaked into the carpet. We had to leave before the showing, so I sprayed some carpet cleaner and tried to blot it up as best as I could, but the carpet was still damp when we left.
