And the “Mother of the Year Award Goes To…”

Apparently not me.

I knew it probably wasn’t a good idea to let Jackson listen to my Amy Winehouse cd.

Seth told me many times that Jackson should never be allowed to listen to the musical talents of Amy Winehouse.

I only half listened.

How can you deny such an angelic face? The first time that he heard “Rehab”, Jackson begged to listen to it over and over again. That and “Back to Black”. He couldn’t really make out the words she was saying, so he made up his own words for most of the songs which is probably a good thing. I finally gave him an old cd of Alan Jackson’s greatest hits in hopes that he would find some new songs that he liked better. We still listened to Amy Winehouse in the car once in a while, but he was won over by “Tall, Tall, Trees”, “Don’t Rock the Jukebox” and a few others. Have you ever heard a two year-old singing, “She looked me in the eyes and said ‘it’s over'”?

He’s also started to associate certain numbers with certain songs that he likes. This became embarrassingly apparent yesterday when we went to the library for story hour. I may or may not have let Jackson listen to Amy Winehouse on the way there…

Miss Erin was reading a story about 10 stinky babies. Each time there was one less stinky baby, she would put a number on the flannel board. When she got to the number 8 Jackson leaned over to me and whispered, “Mama, that’s ‘Don’t Rock the Jukebox'”!

When she got to number 5, he whispered, “That’s ‘Tall, Tall, Trees’ and ‘Back to Black'”!

I was sitting there thanking my lucky stars that he was whispering all of this when Miss Erin got to the number 1. Jackson immediately jumped up and started running around the circle of mothers and innocent little children belting out, “They tried to make me go to rehab, I said lo,lo,lo! Yes, I been black, but when I come back lo,lo,lo!”
