The boys have been sick for over a week and are finally starting to get better, but they have been extra tired from all of the sick and fell asleep in the car a few days ago.
They look so sweet and innocent when they’re sleeping…..
I walked to the park with them a while ago and as soon as we got there, they both decided that they needed to go to the bathroom immediately, so we turned around to go home and I noticed this:
Jackson was in such hurry, he put his helmet on backwards and was really irritated that I wanted to take a picture. I was laughing so hard, that I had trouble holding the phone still.
In other news, here is my standard eitherĀ pre or post-run breakfast lately.
I’m running my first marathon tomorrow and I hope this is enough to get me through it! Supposedly, bananas are also a good thing to eat before a run but, yech. No thanks.
I’ll pack a baggie of swedish fish to eat during the race and hopefully everything will go fine. Swedish fish have been my running fuel during training because I’m too cheap/poor to buy gels and chews and I’m going to stick to what I’m used to. Although, my stomach can handle pretty much anything (good thing it can; we’re going to Golden Corral tonight for Dale’s 60th birthday), so I might have a gel at the aid stations if I start to slow down.
Speaking of slowing down, I have no idea how much I’m going to slow down toward the end of the race. My longest runs have been 19 and 20 miles and the 19 miler sucked big time and I hated life, but the 20 miler was great. Seth joined me on his bike toward the end of that one and I decided to speed up for the last mile to get an idea of how much energy I still had left. I ran 8:48 in the last mile which included stopping to pet a friendly dog that ran up and peed on my hand as it jumped all over me so that made me feel a little more confident. The pace, not the pee……just to clarify.
I’m super slow but fairly certain that I can finish somewhere around 4:25. Different pace calculators that I’ve used have predicted around 3:55, but I’ve never raced a single time in my life and was not in sports (hello: mostly home schooled) so I have no idea what to expect and I’m just going to take it easy and enjoy the experience.
Although I briefly toyed with the idea of trying for a sub 4 hour, I read a comment on a running site that said anyone who didn’t run or play sports in high school didn’t develop their muscles as well as they should have and would never really know how to push themselves. Me = dreams crushed.
However, I fully intend to use this marathon as a measuring stick for future racesĀ and totally blow my first time out of the water to prove to myself that I can push my body even if I worked through high school instead of joining the cross country team.
So Ha! to you, faceless dream-crusher on a random website!
