Late To The First Day

So marathon training started yesterday…..and my alarm didn’t go off.

Being the brilliant person that I am, I woke up at or near my usual time, but because I had not heard an alarm, decided that it was too early and first day excitement was to blame so I went back to sleep. Without actually checking the time. I didn’t wake up again until Tucker crawled in bed with us and I saw light coming through the tiny gaps in our window blinds. I rocket launched out of bed only to realize that it was almost 7:00 and I should have already been in the shower.

No lovely, peaceful, pre-dawn run with Ruger today.

It all worked out though because it was still a bit light out when I got home from work and Seth even came with me and Ruger on his bike. I took it nice and slow since I spent so much of January being sick with some sort of respiratory thing (our county had around 1,200 cases of whooping cough last time I checked so it might have been something along those lines). Here are my splits (including stops to let Ruger sniff):

DISTANCE PACE ELAPSED TIME
1.0 mi 11:29 min/mi 00:11:28
2.0 mi 10:20 min/mi 00:10:19
3.0 mi 11:02 min/mi 00:11:02

Followed the run with some light stretching, 10 squats, and10 reps, each side, each way of forward and backward lunges. Got to keep the ol’ knees strong!

And, a picture of my favorite kids in the world because I brought them to the library, the car wash and Costco on Saturday all by myself without any embarrassing or frustrating incidents to speak of….other than the guy who tried to pick me up by stealing my shopping cart before he realized that this lady comes with a husband and two boys in tow.

Boring Biking Partners

Last Sunday, before our family bike ride, Seth and I thought we would be cool parents and bring the boys through the Taco John’s drive-thru for breakfast burritos. Jackson’s face should be evidence enough that he was not happy with our decision.

In his defense, he was having a bad sock day and I think we all know what that means: It means that I ate his burrito for him. Waste not, want not!

While Seth and I were unloading bikes at the trailhead, Tucker decided that he needed to use the great outdoors as his restroom…..facing a busy road. We pretended that we didn’t know him.

We finally got going and made our way across the bridge at the slowest pace possible.

Tucker’s face at about mile 2.7……we were already on our way back because the boys thought that they had put in enough effort for the day.

Talk about boring biking partners.

Hopefully, we can build their distance up by summertime!

And, we all celebrated NeNe’s 60th birthday on Wednesday night. These boys were happy to help her with the dessert!

IMG_5136I made it back from Canada just in time to meet everyone for dinner. Seth’s birthday is the day before his mom’s. For some reason, I messed up on the date of his birthday this year and thought his birthday would fall on a Monday, so we planned the work trip around it. When I reassured Seth that I would be home for his birthday on the 26th he gave me a strange look and asked how long we had been married……nearly 12 years. Yes, his birthday is on the 27th and I left at 5:00 that morning. Best wife ever. Ooops!
