I was planning to post this over the weekend, but life got in the way, so we’re a day late. I promise I’ll try better this week! Before I tell you all about my first week of marathon training (scroll to the end if you want to skip all the personal stuff!)…….Seth had a birthday at the end of January! Doesn’t he look cute with his cheesecake? We had a snowstorm on Tuesday and the schools closed so I worked from home. The dogs loved it! Coco was tunneling through the snow until she realized that she could follow the paths that Ruger was making. Total game changer. Tera, my coworker also had a birthday last week and our boss brought in bagels. There was one special apple cinnamon bagel that we saved all week. On Friday, someone did this to it:
I guess they must not have wanted to eat it, but didn’t want anyone else to enjoy it either?
Tucker had his 3rd basketball game on Saturday. His coach moved him to a different position and he’s actually pretty good. It’s so much fun to watch the kids have such a great time. Also, his gloves never come off outside of their once-weekly washing……gross.Jackson’s gloves never come off either. Both boys are wearing through the palms of their gloves, but I don’t know where to find replacements that would be as cool as these and they’re all sold out at our local Sierra Trading Post. If anyone knows where I can find the same or similar ones, I would be eternally grateful!
On Sunday morning, Seth and Jackson went to the archery range and Tucker helped me take the dogs for a walk. Tucker ran most of the way and wanted to keep going even further than we had planned. After we got home, it was Super Bowl time. This describes my feelings exactly:
I did let Seth talk me into putting on Jackson’s jersey for a quick picture though.Jackson declined to wear his jersey and both boys spent the evening watching Minecraft YouTube videos in our room instead. They seemed perfectly happy to miss the game. It probably helped that I brought them root beer and Cheezits to snack on.
Seth’s parents and Erin came over to watch the game with us and we ate tons of food. Jason, Erin’s husband, came a little later and the guys had to pose in their ugly Bronco’s sweater vests. So magical. Seth insists that the Broncos win every time he wears the sweater and yesterday seemed to prove him right.
Now for the running stuff:
I’m using the Beginner Hanson’s Marathon Method for this training cycle. It’s making me a little nervous about the weekday runs because they get up to 10 miles and I really like to stay in bed every morning. Evening runs just don’t seem to happen for me so it’s going to be interesting to see how disciplined I can be . The good part is that the longest long run is 16 miles instead of 20+ because the Hanson’s use a cumulative fatigue approach and weekly runs are higher miles than more traditional plans. I’m going to do the long runs on Saturdays so that my Sunday run is shorter and we can spend more time together as a family (that’s the only day that Seth and I have off together). If I travel, I usually fly out on a Sunday, so I can also avoid running for several hours before saying “see ya” to my family. Also, my chances of succumbing to deep vein thrombosis are slimmer – winning!
Wednesday: 3 easy miles @ 10:12
Followed by a 1 minute plank. Thursday: Off
Friday: 3 easy miles at 9:52
Saturday: 4 easy miles @ 9:56
Week number 1 was all treadmill miles – hopefully that will change this week! It did give me a chance to use the SLS3 Run Belt indoors though.
I usually plug my phone into the speakers on my treadmill, but when I run on a hotel treadmill I’m either watching the news, or staring at a wall since my phone is so big and uncomfortable to carry. At home, I rarely listen to music when I run outside, but it really helps to motivate/distract me during treadmill, speed work and tempo runs. Plus, most hotel gyms are literally the worst. I have a feeling this belt is going to be a life saver! Thank you SLS3!
I should be ready to post a review soon with more details and a fun little surprise for my readers!
