Here’s Pike.
Sweet, little Pike who we’ve had since he was tiny enough to fit in my sweatshirt pocket.
He found a muskie lure on our balcony this morning and, for some reason only known to him, decided to eat it.
The hooks in his paw were so deep that Seth couldn’t get them out, so we brought him to the vet who had to sedate him and push them all the way through.
Pike was able to get the hooks out of his mouth on his own, but ripped out half of the underside of his tongue as a result. If you look closely, there is a main artery under his tongue that he came close to snagging as well.
From the blood splattered all over our balcony and door frame, you would think that he did snag an artery.
$200 dollars later, he’s home with drugs, antibiotics, bandages, and an iv bag as a bootie to keep his bandages dry.

Did I mention that the iv bag appears to be used?
For 200 bucks you would think that he could at least get a new iv bag!
Anyway, he’s doing fine and the bandages will come off in 2-3 days, but I have a feeling he’ll avoid fishing with Seth for a while.
